Work / TTC

Case Study
As part of the new mandate to make Toronto's public transit system easier to access, the TTC turned to Devlin and Uproot to overhaul their complicated and outdated web site.
With the goal for the redesign to be simple, welcoming and fully accessible, Uproot worked with Devlin to ensure that their refreshed design would not make trade-offs between performance and design.
As commuters ourselves, we know that being up-to-date about transit changes are critical, especially in Toronto. Given that, we took steps to ensure the updated experience would work on mobile devices as well.
Through solutions like maximizing CSS use in place of graphics and a grid-based mark-up optimized for zooming in on smaller screens, we ensured that mobile users would have updated, fast-loading information at their fingertips.
The new site, which features overhauled schedule routes, fare, and advisory information saw a 70% decrease in bounce rates after it's launch, and similar increases in total and unique views. It is also in the 87th percentile of overall load time, which is about right for the transit service dubbed The Red Rocket.
